大家都知道face the music是面對現實、對自己的行為承擔後果的意思，這個慣用語可以推溯到十九世紀，通常有兩種說法。
一為緣自劇場，因為劇場舞台區正前方多為樂手區，面對樂手等於面對觀眾，而引申為面對現實的意思。
另一種是南北戰爭時，軍隊中的一種儀式，當時是以鳴鼓的方式表示將軍官撤職，引申為承擔後果的意思。
